I was feeling antsy one day and went through Pinterest. I saw some beautiful stained-glass pieces and thought, hmm, I love to solder, so I went to this tiny stained-glass studio. I took four classes on copper soldering and brought all of that knowledge to my garage. I then bought the stuff that I used in class. I then bought a book on how to make stained-glass with lead. With this new knowledge, it’s basically this:
Find the picture you want to make
This is for me the hardest part because I want to make something nice but not too complicated. So I made a feather chime. I found a basic feather then drew out the outside pattern. Then finding glass pieces I put them wrapped them with copper, soldered them together, and hung them.
My thoughts on this craft:
It’s pricy, especially the diamond heads for carving the glass and the glass carver (about $200). It does take up some space and can grow exponentially for the glass pieces. However, the creating part is worth the money. It feels great to draw something and make a glass piece out of it.
